Rowans Hospice; The Ruby Ride 2013

For the second year running Kenn Scaddan Associates Limited took part in raising money for The Rowans Hospice by cycling the 65 mile epic route. Starting at 1000 Lakeside the route takes you on a trip around the perimeter of Portsmouth before heading out into the quiet countryside.

The forecast for the morning was sunshine however gales and rain were forecast for the afternoon so Shaun, James and myself were keen to get going as soon as possible. Leaving a little after 9:30 we were working our way around the island's cycle network. In no time at all we would be out of Portsmouth and starting our journey North towards Petersfield.

A series of checkpoints gave ample opportunity to stock up on food and drink. Something James definitely took advantage of!

A temperature drop and a disappearing  sun was a welcomed change given the climbing that would ensue. Unfortunately as predicted the wind picked up to a degree when it was necessary to pedal on the downhills!

After what seems like an eternity The spinnaker tower comes into sight once more ad before you know it you're being greeted at the finish line with your finishers medal and the roar of applause.

This is a fantastic event to take part in an will is going to be a regular event on the KSA calendar. The organisation is top notch and a team of volunteers ensure that your day from start to finish is an enjoyable one. We would like to thank all involved especially to the marshals who stood in horrible conditions or hours on end. The Blood Bikes deserve mention too, all of them were very supportive and played a big part in ensuring all was well out on the course.

To date we have raised £600 in sponsorship (£700 including gift aid) although there is still time to donate any extra!
